Justin - Entering the World

Two Entries

After months of careful preparation,
You reveal yourself to all at last.
Trembling, shaking, taking your first breath;
Shivering scared until you’re wrapped with love.
By aunts and uncles and grandparents cradled;
Your parents rearranging their whole world
To make a space for you to grow up safe-
Grow up safe to something very you.

After years of careful preparation,
You’re ready to be on your own at last.
Perhaps still shaking, taking your first steps.
And when you fall, and fall for sure you will,
You’ll find though on your own, you’re not alone;
Many hands will help you to your feet.
That space for you, once made, will never close,
And wrapping love has a tremendous reach.
